About

Hi, I am Rob Rusunen and founder of Rusunen Counseling which provides counseling & therapy for individuals, couples, and groups.

My specialty is incorporating a mix of therapeutic approaches and techniques to support those struggling with a range of emotional concerns including trauma, anxiety, stress, anger, depression, grief, loss, shame, low self-worth, and difficult life transitions. We will begin by learning and discovering what has been the source of the distress, better understand it and how it has impacted you, then begin the process of transforming you into your true self.

Born and originally from Montana while raised in Oregon, I embrace and enjoy my time outside in nature and experience the elements as much as possible including trail running, backpacking, camping, riding my bike, or playing with my dogs. If you would be interested in having your counseling and therapy sessions outdoors walking or hiking, we can incorporate that, just let me know!

I am a Registered LPC Associate with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT) and abides by its Code of Ethics. I am under the supervision of Gianna Russo-Mitma, MS, LMFT.

Two key therapeutic theories included . . .

Person-centered therapy is a non-authoritative approach where we discuss your personal challenges, an array of concerns, & possible trauma while discovering your own strengths & solutions. The therapist acts as a compassionate facilitator, listening without judgment & acknowledging your experience without moving the conversation in another direction. The therapist is present to encourage & support you & to guide the therapeutic process without interrupting or interfering with your process of self-discovery.

Narrative therapy is an approach that views people as separate from their problems. This allows you to get some distance from the issue to see how it might actually be helping or protecting you more than it is hurting you. With this new perspective, you feel more empowered to make changes in your thought patterns & behavior & “rewrite” your story for a future that reflects who you are, what you are capable of, & what your purpose is, separating from your problems.
